BROKEN SHINE
Co-written by Livio Spanò & Tiffany Hughes
I'm the voice
for those
who failed
in life.
For all souls
so betrayed that
when you look into
their eyes,
you can still see
the broken child.
I am the crack in your face.
I am the silenced syllables on your lips.
I am hope that whispers like smoke disappearing into the night.
I am a soundless sound.
I am your vulnerability,
your disgrace.
There.
Now gone.
But I was so broken
I let in an eternity of light.
Eyes shining so bright,
light turned to smoke,
smoke to fire,
flames so wild
they lit your way.
I am the word that left your lips.
I am the tremble,
I am the vibration.
I am here.
I am broken, and I shine.
WHAT IS THE PRICE OF MY SLEEP?
What is the price of my sleep?
I saw Christ’s bed
on the dirty side of the street
he was sleeping deeply
he was beautiful
and then,
I asked myself
what is the price of my sleep?
Empty space
missing bodies
drinking slowly
shadows, foggy.
What is the price of your freedom?
Child after child
place after place
bin after bin
indifference after indifference
face after face.
When you rush to work,
when you hurry
because there isn’t time
to really see the crowd,
the disgusted crowd,
what is the price of your sleep?
What is the price of my sleep?
My land is buried beneath millions of corpses
softly dead dreams,
what is the price of your silence
when you turn your head away
so you don’t let misery touch you?
What is the price of your sleep?
What is the price of my sleep?
It’s time to sleep!
Do you want to sleep?
It’s time to sleep!
Do I have to pay?
It’s time to sleep!
CHEW MY EYES
Chew my eyes
I have a voice broken
into a thousand pieces.
I cannot be the megaphone
that sleeping ears
would want me to be.
Between the experts’ vomit,
those who say “so be it,”
and those who whisper to me
with anticipated disaster,
a furious goodbye.
But the way I see it,
from the most distant point of God’s view,
there are gazes of love
to protect with all my strength,
a single possibility:
I too want to live.
TREMENDOUS DEHUMANIZATION
Tremendous are the days when
everything seems to deny
our only chance to survive.
Dehumanizing myself
to be efficient,
to be happy above all,
even if/when part of me dies
at my side.
I continue racing
'cause this is what
the human race does.
I rest,
risking getting lost.
Don't be lazy,
run.
Run 'til you're not the one.
Or the one.
I'm the one,
only the one
nobody else can be.
I am the human potential,
the disgrace within your plastic world,
fanatic narcissism,
ego machismo.
Blame me 'til
I'm not the one,
crucify me when
your eyes are blind,
your mind completely empty.
